Apu Salkantay Ritual Trek
$0.00 / from
This trek is one of the most amazing and complete experiences you can have in Cusco. It is not only an alternative route to Machu Picchu but also an authentic pilgrimage through dramatic landscapes, changing ecosystems, and a living ancestral culture. Each step transforms into a deep connection with the land and its guardians.
The Apu Salkantay is the guardian of the Andes
This tour highlights the majestic Nevado Salkantay (20,571 feet), one of the highest and most revered mountains in Peru. Its Quechua name means "the indomitable," and it is no coincidence. Its presence commands respect and admiration. For Andean communities, Salkantay is an apu, a tutelary spirit that protects and governs valleys. You will feel its energy intensely during the ascent.
As you walk in its shadow, you will feel its imposing, snowy silhouette blend with the sky, becoming a symbol of power, wisdom, and spiritual connection.
A Journey Through Ecological Levels and Changing Landscapes
The Salkantay Trek is unique because of the diverse landscapes and altitudes it crosses. In just a few days, you will experience an incredible ecological transformation.
High punas with open views and pure air. Glacial lakes such as the mystical Humantay Lagoon reflect the sky and mountains in their turquoise waters. You will also see paramo and jungle vegetation where Andean winds mix with tropical aromas. Finally, you will reach the high jungle, which is exuberant, warm, and full of life.
This gradual change transforms not only the landscape but also accompanies travelers in a process of physical and spiritual adaptation. It's as if each ecosystem prepares the body and soul to reach Machu Picchu, the jewel of the Andes.
Experience cultural coexistence and high-altitude coffee
During the journey, you will stay in family-run lodges managed by local communities, providing an intimate experience of authentic Andean hospitality. You will share meals made with local ingredients, hear stories about the area, and participate in the daily lives of the families who inhabit these lands.
One of the most memorable experiences is visiting a high-altitude coffee farm and learning how to harvest, roast, and prepare organic coffee with the farmers, who combine ancestral knowledge with sustainable practices. This activity represents the perfect union of nature, tradition, and flavor.
Machu Picchu: The Sacred Destination
The journey culminates in the mystical city of Machu Picchu, suspended between mountains and shrouded in clouds. After traveling through valleys, highlands, and jungle, reaching it is an act of inner conquest. Each wall, temple, and platform resonates with the millennial wisdom of the Incas, who built in harmony with their environment and the stars.
